Dedicated to improving functional performance

What is Functional Training?

In simple terms functional training is training for function!

Using unique functional assessment tools it is possible to see where an individual is lacking movement and presenting with pain. This in turn enables specific, individual, tailored program design to enhance functional performance and to suit your functional movement goals as well as reducing pain symptoms.

Unlike normal training which can sometimes be a little one dimensional, functional training focuses on using all three planes of movement available to the body often in one exercise movement pattern.

The three planes of movement available to us are

frontal (forwards and backwards)
sagittal (side to side lateral movement)
transverse (twisting/rotational)

Training for function must take into account the individual and their intended movement goals. By doing this it is possible to target specific muscles and joint movements in a way similar to that of the desired activity being performed. This enables muscle groups to be trained harder and quicker than before.
